Meet the Editors

The following editors have agreed to participate in the conference. They are willing to share their view on how to improve your chance of getting your papers published at the conference.

Peter G. Szilagyi

Peter G. Szilagyi is Associate Professor, Head of MS in Finance, and Head of FinTech Section at the CEU InnovationsLab startup incubator.

Peter was Assistant Professor at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, in 2007-14 and was Director of the MPhil in Finance. He earned his PhD from Tilburg and held a research fellowship at Oxford Saïd Business School. He has been an external consultant to the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, and before entering academia worked for the BBC World Service. He held one of the first research grants awarded by the SWIFT Institute.

Peter is Managing Editor of Elsevier's Journal of Multinational Financial Management, and Subject Editor of Emerging Markets Review and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money.

 

The following editors have agreed to have a special issue of their journal for the conference.

Professor Ali Kutan

Ali Kutan is a Professor of Economics and Finance at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, an associate member of the Emerging Market Group (EMG), Cass Business School, London, a research fellow at the William Davidson Institute (WDI), University of Michigan Business School, and a senior fellow at the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI), University of Bonn, Germany. His research interests include applied international finance, financial markets and institutions, and financial aspects of economic development. His recent work focuses on the transition economies of the Central and East Europe, China, Turkey, the EU and the U.S. His recent research topics include the determination of asset prices in emerging markets, the monetary aspects of the enlargement of the European Union, and the impact of IMF actions on emerging markets.

Professor Kutan currently works on monetary policy issues regarding Polish economy as a member of an IMF research team. He was a visiting scholar at the Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis from August 1998 through August 1999. His research is supported through several agencies, including The National Council for Eurasian and East European Research, the U.S. Department of Education, and the William Davidson of Institute of the University of Michigan Business School. His paper on “Exchange Rate and Trade Policy on Transition Economies” won the “Paper Competition Award” through the Association for Comparative Economic Studies (ACES) in 1992 and his recent paper with Josef Brada on “Monetary Policy Convergence Between the Candidate Countries and the European Union” was the co-recipient of the best paper prize awarded by the Editorial Board of Economic Systems in summer 2001.

Professor Kutan served as a consultant to the World Bank involving a project on enterprise behavior in the transition economies of Eastern Europe. He has recently provided management training for the Boeing Company in two locations, St. Louis and California, in the areas of international finance and business management.
He has published extensively in several economics and finance journals, including Applied Economics, Applied Financial Economics, Atlantic Economic Journal, Comparative Economic Studies, Eastern European Economics, Economic Inquiry, Economic Systems, Economic Letters, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Development Studies, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Financial Services Research, International Journal of Finance, Southern Economic Journal, Open Economies Review, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, and Review of International Economics. His other work also appeared in the Transition Newsletter of the World Bank, Review of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and book volumes published by the New York University and MIT Press.

In addition to his research, Professor Kutan serves as a referee for numerous professional journals. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Economic Association, American Finance Association, the Association for Comparative Economics, and the Financial Management Association. He serves at the editorial board of Comparative Economic Studies, Economic Systems, and International Business and Economic Review. Since joining the faculty in 1990, Professor Kutan has received several funded research grants from SIUE.

He served as the co-editor of Comparative Economic Studies from 2001 to 2003. He is currently the editor of Emerging Markets Finance and Trade (formerly Russian and East European Finance and Trade) and the American editor of Economic Systems.

Professor Kutan teaches a variety of economics and finance courses, including international finance and financial econometrics for economics and finance majors, and international business courses for MBA students.

 

Professor Sung Y. Park

Professor Sung Y. Park is an associate professor of the School of Economics at the Chung-Ang University. He was an assistant professor of Economics at WISE, Xiamen University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is interested in the fields of Econometric Theory and Applications, Financial Econometrics, Empirical Finance, and Energy Economics. He has published in a range of journals including Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Reviews, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Economic Inequality, Economic Modelling, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, International Journal of Forecasting, China Economic Review, Energy Economics, Journal of Futures Markets, International Review of Finance among many others. He teaches various courses in Economics and Econometrics, including econometric theory, applied econometrics, time series econometrics, machine learning with big data, and economic mathematics. He is currently the Editor of Journal of Economic Development.

 

Associate Professor Michael Downing

Rennes School of Business, France.

Michael Dowling is Associate Professor of Finance in Rennes School of Business, France, where his main role is as the Director of the AI-driven Business research centre. This cross-disciplinary centre applies machine learning / deep learning techniques to the understanding of business phenomena, with a particular emphasis on textual data learning. In addition Michael is co-Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance (ABDC B-ranked), which publishes research that provides understanding of behavioural drivers of financial decision making. Michael obtained his PhD from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.

 

Professor Naoyuki Yoshino

Professor Naoyuki Yoshino is delivering a video speech at the conference. Details to be annouced.

Professor Naoyuki Yoshino is Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) and Professor Emeritus at Keio University, Tokyo, Japan. He obtained his PhD from Johns Hopkins University (United States) in 1979 where his thesis supervisor was Sir Alan Walters, economic adviser to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Naoyuki has been a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States) and a visiting professor at various universities including the University of New South Wales (Australia), Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (France), and University of Gothenburg (Sweden). He has also been an assistant professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo and an economics professor at Keio University.

Naoyuki's professional career includes membership in numerous government committees. He was named Director of the Japan Financial Services Agency's (FSA) Financial Research Center (FSA Institute) in 2004 and is now Chief Advisor. He was appointed as Chair of the Financial Planning Standards Board in 2007. He has served as Chairperson of the Japanese Ministry of Finance's Council on Foreign Exchange as well as its Fiscal System Council (Fiscal Investment and Loan Program Section). Additionally, he has been a Board Member of the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan and President of the Financial System Council of the Government of Japan.

He was nominated for inclusion in Who's Who in the World for 2009 and 2013, and was named one of the Top 100 Educators in 2009. He obtained honorary doctorates from the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) in 2004 and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) in 2013. He also received the Fukuzawa Award in 2013 for his contribution to research on economic policy.
